Last week we brought you information on the concerns and statistics of single-use and plastic food storage containers.  This week, we’re happy to feature an interview with Bee’s Wrap.  These unique, and beautiful, reusable food storage options are unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

An Interview With Bee's Wrap

Thanks for taking some time to share with us about your company.  Tell us a little bit about what Bee’s Wraps are and why you started the company. Bee’s Wrap is the natural alternative to plastic wrap for food storage. Made of GOTS-certified cotton, beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin, our eco-friendly wraps are washable, reusable, and compostable. They typically last for about a year with regular use, and are great for wrapping fruits and veggies, cheese, bread, and sandwiches, or covering a bowl of leftovers.  Bee’s Wrap was founded in 2012 by Vermonter Sarah Kaeck, who was seeking to eliminate plastics in her kitchen and live a more sustainable life. As an artist and avid seamstress, she was frequently experimenting with different uses for fabric, and later the application of beeswax. What she discovered was a lost tradition made new again: durable and versatile beeswax food wraps that can be used again and again.

What was the process like for creating your product? Originally made by hand in Sarah’s kitchen, Bee’s Wrap is now made in our workshop in Bristol, VT using a custom-designed machine to coat our organic fabric with beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin. Each wrap is then cut, folded, packaged, and then shipped out with care by our growing team.

Do you have any words of encouragement or support you’d like to share with women? Make sure to take time for yourself. In the midst of busy days full of meetings, phone calls, taking care of her three kids, and the fast-paced problem solving that a rapidly growing company regularly demands, Sarah makes it a priority to go for a walk in the woods to clear her head. It is during this quiet time that she is able to re-energize and do her best thinking

What other tips would you give to women looking to remove toxins and waste from their homes? Start small. There are so many great (and fun!) options out there that can replace plastics and other toxins in the home: stainless steel containers and straws, linen napkins, nontoxic household cleaning products, bamboo to-go utensils…. The list goes on. Her favorite thing right now is her collapsible, stainless steel coffee cup.
